Zoo Game

Directions
  • Children gather in a circle
  • Each one thinks of a different animal and makes a hand motion to represent the animal
  • Moving in a circle, each child shares their hand motion with the entire group so the group knows the animal and its related hand motion
  • Next, the children clap a rhythm -- two beats on their legs then clap once.  This is repeated.
  • The children begin singing together “One, Two, let’s play zoo” to the rhythm they are clapping
  • The first child, after the beats on their leg, instead of clapping, does the hand motions for their animal.  Then, the same child after the next two beats on their legs performs the hand motions of another child's animal (instead of clapping).
  • The child with the next animal is now the leader and add another animal to the sequence.
  • This repeats until everyone in the circle has participated.
  • Example with 3 children playing:
    •  Child 1:
      • "One" (two beats on leg) -- Eveyone all together
      • "Two" (clap) -- Eveyone all together
      • "Let's play" (two beats on leg) - - Eveyone all together
      • "Zoo" (clap) - - Eveyone all together
      • two beats on leg - - Eveyone all together
      • animal motion - Child One does animal motion while group claps
      •  two beats on leg - - Eveyone all together
      • another child's animal motion -- Child One does another child's animal motion while group claps
    • Child 2
      • two beats on leg - - Eveyone all together
      • Child Two repeats sequence above and adds another child's animal motion while group claps
    •  Child 3
      • two beats on leg - - Eveyone all together
      • Child Three repeats sequence above and adds another child's animal motion while group claps
