Butterfly Paper Plate

Materials
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Paper Plate
  • Markers and Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Stapler or Glue
Directions
  1. Fold paper plate in half and cut along the fold
  2. Place the halves on top of each other and cut out a curved triangle in the center
  3. Staple or glue the 2 halves together in a shape of a butterfly, placing the rounded edges together
  4. Decorate the butterfly with markers and crayons
  5. Wrap the pipe clear around the middle of the butterfly and tie together to make antennae
  6. You now have a butterfly

Flying Freeze Dance
               
Materials
  1. CD with wispy music that reminds you of a bird
  2. Music player           
Directions
  1. Children dance around acting like planes and birds
  2. When the music stops, they freeze
  3. If they move, they are out

Helicopter Competition
               
Materials
  • Paper (template)
  • Paper Clips
  • Scissors

Directions
  1. Print out template
  2. Cut on straight lines on the paper
  3. Fold on the straight lines
  4. Once a group of children have finished, start a competition
  5. Gather competitors
  6. Hold helicopters from same length
  7. Count "One- Two- Three", and the children will drop the helicopters all together
  8. The last helicopter to touch the ground wins!


Paper Airplanes

Materials
  • Paper               
Directions
  1. Fold the paper in half hotdog style
  2. Fold down the top corners until they meet the crease
  3. Grab the edge on the side  of the plane and pull it to the center forming a triangle
  4. Fold in half and turn the plane 90 degrees
  5. Create a wing crease that begins at the nose
  6. Your paper airplane is complete

Paper Crane

Materials
  • Origami Paper (Square shaped)
Directions
  1. Fold the paper in half into a rectangle and then unfold
  2. Fold it in half the other way and then unfold
  3. Fold the paper diagonally in both directions and unfold
  4. Bring the lower right side of the top flap to the middle line so the paper resembles a kite
  5. Bring the right corner of the top flap to the middle crease.
  6. Fold down the top corner to make the crease lie along the horizontal line created by the previous step
  7. Unfold the last three folds
  8. Fold the bottom corner of the square up along the horizontal crease from the previous steps up to the top corner
  9. Turn the paper over and repeat steps 5-8
  10. Fold the outer edges of the diamond to the middle crease
  11. Fold the right flap over to the left
  12. Fold the bottom tip of the top flap up to the top corner
  13. Fold the right flap over to the left
  14. Fold the wings down so that they are perpendicular to the body, head, and tail
  15. Fold the tip of the head down
  16. Pull the head and tail out so that they line up with the outer edges of the body
  17. If you want to make it three dimensional, take the corners on the bottom of the body and gently pull the shape
  18. The crane is complete

Paper Eggs
Materials
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Crayons
  • Newspaper
  • Markers
  • Stapler or Glue
Directions
  1. Cut out two identical egg shapes from paper
  2. Decorate the paper with crayons and markers
  3. Line the two eggs on top of each other, colored sides facing out
  4. Staple or glue the papers together, leaving the top open
  5. Open the inside and fill with crumpled newspaper
  6. Seal off the top using a stapler or glue

Owl Paper Plates
               
Materials
  • 3 paper plates
  • Scissors
  • Crayons
  • Markers
Directions
  1. On one paper plate, fold a third of a plate over
  2. On the folded part of the plate, cut two short slits an inch and a half from the ends and fold them back up
  3. Staple the center piece
  4. Draw eyes on the owl and beak
  5. Staple the head to another plate
  6. Cut another paper plate in half
  7. Glue these two halves on the side of the bottom plate as wings
  8. Color owl with markers and crayons
  9. Now you have an owl!

Paper Plate Bird Tambourine
               
Materials
  • Paper plates
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Feathers
  • Rice, beans or beads
Directions
  1. Fold plate inwards
  2. On one end on each side draw an eye
  3. Decorate bird with feathers and markers and crayons
  4. Staple the bird leaving a little opening
  5. Add beads, beans or rice inside.
  6. Seal the opening
  7. You have your bird tambourine
